Let out the sound!

Tuesday, 19th December

The new bell frame will be lower in the tower and in order to allow the sound of the bells to broadcast from the belfry windows, it was necessary to remove some of the flooring under the ancient bell frame which is still insitu. The first task was the removal of centuries of dust, bird nests and debris which was brought down the tower steps in bag loads. A grubby job for our volunteers! On 19th December, each floorboard was carefully removed from the joist and lowered to the ground. There were a dozen boards to remove and it was a day long job. As you will see from the image, a safety harness was necessary for this work. The second picture reveals the ancient oak beams in all their glory.
