The Arrival of the Bells

Wednesday, 27th March

It was a thrilling moment to see the low loader making its way through the village street early on Wednesday morning with our restored bells. And magnificent they looked too with their graphite coating and poppy red headstocks. The unloading seemed to be carried out remarkably quickly. One bell at a time was lifted and swung down onto the trolley whereupon our willing volunteers drove it down into the church. They are now sitting in the base of the tower ready to be hallowed by the Bishop of Ipswich and St Edmundsbury this afternoon after which they will be hoisted into the belfry.

This is the Second Bell recast by John Taylors. It is dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II and commemorates her long reign.

All six bells safely arrived.

Matching clappers.
