The bells are in the belfry

April 3rd and 4th, 2024

The Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich took time out of his busy Easter schedule to visit St Margaret’s to hallow the bells with holy oil. We look forward to his return in September for our Rededication Service. On Easter Saturday, an open church morning attracted almost 100 village residents and friends who came to view the bells still standing in the tower. Immediately after Easter, the bell hangers began the task of installing the bells into their new frame in the belfry. This work was completed within the week. Currently, we have a two-week break before the bell hangers return to work on 22nd April to finish the more mundane work of attaching the bell ropes, setting in the rope guides and completing the chiming system. Following this, there is work to be done by the electrician and the lime plasterer and decorator. We are hoping all will be done by the end of May.

All six bells safely arrived.
